Leadership Notes

What a delightful day Sunday was. I love the worshiping life of Covenant Church. Our singing is tremendous. Our fellowship after worship is heartening. There’s no place I’d rather be on a Sunday morning.

I learned one piece of important information about Keanu Reeves Sunday afternoon. As I was shown a video of an absolutely delightful encounter he recently had with a young fan, as he signed something, I noticed Reeves is left-handed. That’s all I need to say about that.

Speaking of Keanu Reeves, after worship Sunday, a lovely young woman shared a story with me about an encounter she had with him years ago. This happened during a time when she was living in southern California. One day, her car broke down. And who do you think stopped to ask if she needed help? Yep. Keanu Reeves.

You never know what life experiences Covenant Church people are going to share with you. I love our community of faith.

On a totally unrelated note, as the current administration moves our country further down the socialism road, I read something that resonated with my little libertarian heart:

The government is just a business with no incentive to deliver agreed upon services…

BECAUSE THEIR CUSTOMERS PAY THEM UNDER THREAT OF INCARCERATION.

How do we navigate life as citizens of God’s heavenly kingdom living in a broken, fallen world? We are strangers living in a strange land. And as I shared several weeks ago, the Letter of James makes bold assertions about that reality. This Sunday, May 21, the message will reflect on some of these realities.

Until then, here’s your Moment of Spurgeon:

It is always an advantage to have the laws of a kingdom as concise as possible. No one will ever be able to tell how much of litigation and consequent calamity has been caused in this country by the confused condition of our laws.

With Much Love and Affection,

Richard
