The True Purpose of Worship

March 26, 2025

Leadership Notes

Not today, Satan…not today. When things got all glitchy on Sunday morning, that’s where my wee little mind eventually went. While our monitors were on the fritz Sunday, our worship certainly was not. Have I told you lately how much I love you and how you worship? How we worship? As we scrambled last minute to make adjustments, our worship did not suffer. It’s a beautiful thing when devoted followers of Jesus Christ embrace the true purpose of worship…to give God all the glory and honor and praise for His gift of salvation. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there’s no place on earth I’d rather be on a Sunday morning that right here at Covenant Church.

On a related note, here’s an inquiry to Miss Manners {March 21, 2025}:

Dear Miss Manners: Is it bad manners to wear a wireless earpiece at church during the sermon?

Gentle Reader: It depends. Is it being used to amplify the sermon

–or drown it out? Either way, Miss Manners warns you, you will

have to explain yourself, as people will assume the latter. And

keep in mind that lying in church seems a particularly damning

idea.

I love that! A little laughter is good for one and all.

Finally, this wonderful observation from Virgil L. Walker:

“The gathering of the saints on the Lord’s Day is a foretaste of

heaven. If worship bores you, heaven will too. True believers love

gathering with the church.”

I can hear us all saying, “Amen,” to Mr. Walker.

And now, your Moment of Spurgeon:

“Some go to church to take a walk; some go there to laugh and

talk. Some go there to meet a friend; some go there their time to

spend. Some go there to meet a lover; some go there a fault to

cover. Some go there for speculation; some go there for

observation. Some go there to doze and nod; the wise go there to

worship God.”

ALWAYS OF GOOD CHEER,

          Richard
