Leadership Notes

One of my favorite episodes of The Twilight Zone was titled "To Serve Man." The premise is an alien race comes to Earth, promising peace and sharing technology. They eradicate hunger and disease. They create a paradise on earth. Meanwhile, a linguist and his team set out to translate the aliens' language, using a book whose title they deduce is "To Serve Man." The episode ends as the first group of people are boarding a spaceship for a cultural exchange. The last thing you hear is one of the translators crying out, "It's a cookbook! 'To Serve Man' is a cookbook!"

Rod Serling was a brilliant screenwriter, playwright, television producer, and author. My thoughts are drawn to "To Serve Man" as I contemplate the plethora of restaurant gift cards you all showered me with last Sunday. If I didn't know better, I'd suspect you were trying to fatten me up {although I have met you halfway} for the holidays. Lori and I cherish your kindness and generosity. It is both an honor and a privilege to serve alongside the wonderful people of Covenant Church in living out our calling to be devoted followers of Jesus Christ. We are growing strong in worship, loving each other, and loving our community. As Paul wrote to the church at Thessalonica:

"We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly

mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and

Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of

hope in our Lord Jesus Christ."

Thank you for your incalculable acts of kindness and generosity!

With Much Love and Affection,

Richard

P.S. - I could not forget Your Spurgeon Moment:

"Nothing confirms a state or a church like holiness. If we be firm in

obedience we shall be firm in happiness. Righteousness establishes, sin

ruins."
