Growing in Service and Expressions of Love

February 8, 2023

Leadership Notes

I so appreciate the people of Covenant Church. Your zeal for worship and desire to minister to the needs of people within our church family and community reveal the depth of faith here. We are growing in service and expressions of love.

Sunday’s message {February 5, 2023}, elicited some delightful comments and emails. Here’s one reflecting on what I said James said about anger:

Our Thoughts Become Our Words…

Our Words Become Our Moods…

Our Moods Become Our Attitudes…

ANGER ARTIFICIALLY HELPS US FEEL IN CONTROL WHEN WE ARE

FEELING OUT OF CONTROL AND FALSELY HELPS US FEEL

POWERFUL WHEN WE FEEL POWERLESS.

I love that. It is definitely refrigerator-magnet-attachable!

As we move forward into the new year {how’s this for a segue?}, our church officer nominating committee will begin the process of discerning who God is calling to serve as elder and deacon {four each}. The description of qualifications for and responsibilities of each office is available from the church office or through the EPC website. For me, it comes down to a five simple qualities:

* Totally Devoted Follower of Jesus Christ.

* A Teachable Spirit.

* Mindful of and attending to the physical and spiritual needs of the people of Covenant Church.

* While the church is not a business, it must be operated in a business-like manner. Therefore, elders oversee the financial and physical operations of the church.

* Deacons provide pastoral/loving care for members of the church when the need arises.

Of course, there are more, but I think these are the most important. There will be more information to come from the Nominating Committee. As always, thank you for being the wonderful people that you are.

With Much Love and Affection,

Richard
