Leadership Notes
On Labor Day, my wife and I did a little laboring in the yard. We completed Round One of fall cleanup. Five yard waste bags. One roped-and-tired bundle of trimmings. It was a good day. And with a day's worth of inspiration under her belt, Lori began the process of tossing flowers. Three hanging baskets of flowers bit the dust today {September 3}. Fall is in the air.
It's been a good summer here at Covenant Church. Our worship leaders continue to provide excellence in worship. We are so blessed with people who have hearts for glorifying God every Sunday. From musicians to worshipers {what hearts for Christ you have!}, you can see how much we love God, Jesus, and each other through our worship. Summer Sundays remind me of something John Ortberg said about worship:
"I need to worship because without it I lose a sense of wonder and gratitude and plod through life with blinders on."
You all know what he's talking about.
VBS was a huge success. The Backpack Blowout blew me away. You've loved each other in times of loss. You've worshiped outside. Babies have been born. Weddings have been celebrated. While life ebbs and flows with the particulars of each season, no matter what season, your love for Jesus Christ is lived out in big and little ways. O how I love the people of Covenant Church.
Finally, weather permitting, our sanctuary roof is getting replaced next week. Plus, much needed insulation will be blown in. Here's how God works in our lives. While we already had the funds {$21,000} set aside for the project, last week, three giving units came forward with special giving. The total cost of the project was covered. In fact, one of the givers, who is neither a member nor attender of Covenant Church, but loves what we do for the community with The Learning Cove and The Backpack Blowout, made a sizeable donation to the project. I don't know about you, but I am both amazed by what God does while at the same time not surprised by what God does.
God is Good All the Time!
Richard
