DAY 19

After this interview the wise men went their way. And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! [Matthew 2:9-10]

MEDITATION

Let’s be stars.

The wise men came from a drastically different culture than the one our Lord was born into. There is no mention of whether they thought Jesus to be anything more than the King of the Jews. What we do know is that they wanted to be where that star led. So much so that they responded sacrificially. And when they reached their destination they were filled with joy.

What did the star do?

The star was silent. It hung in the sky alongside thousands of other stars. It didn’t preach at them, it didn’t judge them and it didn’t avoid them. It simply hung there, bright, silent, lovely, steady and mysteriously attractive. It didn’t try to do anything other than what it was made to do; point to God.

Let’s be stars.

PRAYER:

Father, help us to shine in your world like that star shone for Your Son. Let our demeanor be such that it is peaceful, lovely and always draws others, not to us, but to You.
