Cling To Christ

May 6, 2026

Leadership Notes

Taco Tuesday on Sunday, sponsored by Celebrate Recovery {helping people, through the power of Jesus Christ, to let go of hurts, habits, and hang-ups that get in the way of living an abundant life}, was a beautiful thing. The food, as always, was terrific. I wanted to say taco-rrific, but felt that sounded a bit cheesy. What wasn’t cheesy was the huge crowd. It warms this pastor’s cheesy little heart to see and hear how much you love each other. God is doing a wonderful thing here at Covenant Church.

As we all know, it is going to warm up. Summer is a little less than seven weeks away. That means a lot of good things. Specifically, for me, it means a different rhythm in my schedule. If anyone would like to chat over a cold beverage or cup of coffee, hit my digits {I am such a dork}. I love talking about our shared faith and how it impacts living joyfully in this world. It truly is a nice way to spend a warm summer day.

I love how God is building us in faith here at Covenant Church. You are such positive, affirming, faithful, generous people. As Paul writes in Philippians 1:3-6:

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every

prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of

your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I

am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it

to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

I see it in the way you worship. I hear it in your singing. You welcome newcomers. You are friendly and kind. You generously support ministries that help people and bring hope to all. We are young and old, but united in Christ. I love seeing the infants and toddlers…expectant moms…and strong men of faith who live out their devotion to Jesus and his Word. And you all treasure God’s Word, desiring to grow in your knowledge of it and its application to your life.

With that, I close with a thought or two on holding fast to the hope that is in us.

I’m sure it’s not lost on you to consider those who lose their grip on Biblical faith. Many do. Whether it’s cultural influence or a shaky foundation to begin with, sometimes people waver. They allow themselves to get caught up in false teaching. That why 2 Peter 2:21-22 reminds us:

For it would have been better for them never to have known the

way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the

holy commandment delivered to them. What the true proverb

says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit,

and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the

mire.”

Such a sobering warning to us all. CLING TO CHRIST. HIDE HIS WORD IN YOUR HEART. NEVER FALL AWAY! {Joel Berry} God bless the beautiful people of Covenant Church.

And now, your Moment of Spurgeon:

Though I may have backslidden...yet I have only to go back to my

Father, and say, “Father, I have sinned,” and I am His child still,

and He will fall upon my neck and kiss me, and I shall yet sit at

His table, and hear music and dancing, because he that was lost is

found.

     With Much Love and Affection,

                    Richard
