Leadership Notes
What a wonderful Annual Meeting on Sunday! Great food, as always. And true to form, there was more than enough, so people who forgot or are new to Covenant Church stayed and enjoyed a meal and fellowship. While we couldn’t cover everything in the annual report, a huge thanks to all who contributed in any way, shape, or form to the life of our church. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me or one of our elders.
This is such a beautiful little church. We faithfully embrace the One, True Gospel. We love Jesus. We love each other. We love our community. We grow where we are planted. What a lovely place to be.
When I think about what the future holds for our church, I know that no matter what we experience or go through, all is well, because Jesus Christ is Lord. Here’s how Robert Griffin III puts it:
TRUST GOD IN THE GOOD TIMES AND THE BAD.
PRAISE GOD IN THE GOOD TIMES AND THE BAD.
SEEK GOD IN THE GOOD TIMES AND THE BAD.
THANK GOD IN THE GOOD TIMES AND THE BAD.
GOD’S GOT YOU IN THE GOOD TIMES AND THE BAD. KEEP FAITH
AND DON’T QUIT.
Put in a slightly different way, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones once said, “The greatest fool in the world tonight is a man who’s hoping that the world is going to become a better place. It never will. It’s doomed. Christ says so, but you can be saved out of it. Listen to the message, the gospel of the kingdom. Believe it and press into the kingdom.”
Those two quotes are guiding principles for our church. They reverberated in and around our food, fellowship, and celebration last Sunday. Knowing these things, we cannot help but resonate with Philippians 1:21-26:
“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh,
that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I
am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with
Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on
your account. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue
with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, so that in me you may
have ample cause to glory in Christ Jesus, because of my coming to you
again.”
We can say “Amen” to that all day long.
And now, your Moment of Spurgeon:
“If our salvation depended upon ourselves, it would soon be all
over with us; but if it depend upon that arm, the sinews of which
can never break, - if it depend upon that heart which can never
change and never cease to beat with love omnipotent, why should
we be discouraged?”
With Much Love and Affection,
Richard
