Tis The Season

July 19, 2023

Leadership Notes

{They’re Back…}

Here’s a little mid-summer doom-and-gloom. If you pay attention to the mainstream media, you probably are aware that the whole world is going to blow up in a heat bomb. I know, who knew summer could bring hot and even record-high temperatures? I long for the simpler times when we experienced summer heat without pushing the panic button. Oh well…

As we move through summer, we now set our sights on back-to-school. Vacation Bible School is over. It was a great week to learn about Jesus’ love and the wonder of God’s creation. Words cannot fully express my heartfelt thanks for all involved. God bless the beautiful people of Covenant Church and the community we serve.

There are school districts here in Michigan that resume school the second week in August. Our youngest granddaughter, who will be a sixth-grader at Columbia Central Schools, goes back to school on August 23. First day for Tecumseh Public Schools is also August 23. Stores are now establishing their fully stocked Back-to-School sections. Tis the season…

All of this is to say that, while we’re only halfway through calendar summer, it’s time for our BACKPACK BLOWOUT. To muster up a little hyperbole, we’re going to love bomb the communities in which we live and serve. Here is a list of essential items:

Backpacks {duh}, reusable lunch bags, pencil boxes, 3-ring

binders, pocket folders, notebook paper, spiral notebooks, pencils,

mechanical pencils #7 & #9, pens, highlighters, erasers, crayons,

colored pencils, glue, glue sticks, rulers.

Toiletries:

Tissue boxes, hand sanitizer, tampons, menstrual pads, bar soap,

body wash, deodorant, toothpaste.

This is as official a list as you’re going to see. Without getting too pedantic, what you don’t see is clothing of any kind. That is not the primary goal of this outreach. Our focus is on the above itemized school and personal care supplies. Thank you for your commitment to this ministry.

August 6 will be upon us before we know it, so let’s all get busy and bring in those supplies. Thank you, in advance, for your kind generosity.

And now, because I love you, your Moment of Spurgeon:

THE FIRST LINK BETWEEN MY SOUL AND CHRIST IS NOT MY

GOODNESS BUT MY BADNESS, NOT MY MERIT BUT MY MISERY,

NOT MY RICHES BUT MY NEED.

Always Trying to be of Good Cheer,

Richard
