So, what’s meal prep like in your house?

Leadership Notes

I really do like my wet/dry vacuum. It’s gotten us out of more than a few predicaments. Speaking of predicaments…

I was throwing something together for dinner Monday. Monday is my day to cook; therefore, I like to keep it simple. I’ve been on a stir-fry kick the past several weeks. It’s so easy, I hear you can train a shrimp to do his own version of stir-fry.

Anyway, we love “Ben’s Original Ready Rice Jasmine.” Two servings. It takes 90 seconds in the microwave. Simple and delicious. I put the bag in, turned on the microwave, then returned to the wok and a few finishing touches. Seconds before the microwave beep I heard a loud pop. It sounded like the microwave shook. Lori called out from the living room, “Richard, what’s going on in there?” To which I replied, “Honey, please don’t come into the kitchen right now. It’s best you stay out.” To which she replied, “Richard, what did you do?”

Perhaps some of you are thinking, “Please, O brilliant one, tell us what you did.” I forgot to tear a two-inch section at the top of the bag for venting, per the clear instructions, which I dutifully followed last week when I made same jasmine rice. This time around, it blowed up…it blowed up real good. Did I mention it literally rattled the microwave?

So, I stepped out into the garage. Moments later, I’m dragging before mentioned wet/dry vac into the kitchen. Lori now has an inkling of what I’m up to. Her concern, legitimately so, is that I’m about to make a bad situation worse. If you knew my track record like she does, you would not be surprised at such a supposition. So she asked, “You are not using the garage vacuum to clean up your mess, are you?” After a few seconds of silence, turning on the vac was the only reply needed.

Everything is now fine and dandy. All I have to do is, when the weather is nicer, hose some jasmine rice out of my favorite piece of garage equipment.

And now, your Moment{s} of Spurgeon:

“There is hardship in everything, except eating pancakes.”

> “The physical life of man cannot be sustained unless he has bread to eat.”

> “The happiest days you ever spent are those in which you worshipped God most...Mary was happy at her Master’s feet, because she was there adoring him. Mind you have much of Mary’s spirit, and adore God all day long, for that is the vestibule of heaven.”

I have to add my postscript to this last quote. Last Sunday, I stood in the back of our sanctuary as we sang the closing song. I simply stood and listened. It was such a beautiful thing. Your love for Jesus was so powerfully felt. I love hearing our church sing. It was a perfect ending to a wonderful Sunday morning!

     With Much Love and Affection,

                    Richard
