Liars, Damned Liars, and Politicians {to paraphrase Mark Twain}

May 28, 2025

Leadership Notes…

Liars, Damned Liars, and Politicians {to paraphrase Mark Twain}

I love it when I can reference my insight, brilliance, and brilliant insight.

First, on January 22, 2025, among other things I shared is this:

Some people are happy that Trump is President. Some people

aren’t happy that Harris isn’t President. Some people are happy

that Biden is no longer President. Some people thought Biden was

a great President. And the world keeps on turning. As Ecclesiastes

3:1 reminds us:

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter

under heaven.”

Make no mistake. The United States survived Jimmy Carter. We

survived Ronald Reagan. We survived George H.W. Bush. We

survived Bill Clinton. We survived George W. Bush. We survived

Barack Obama. We survived Donald Trump. We survived Joe

Biden. And we’ll survive Donald Trump again.

Americans are resilient people. Most of us love our communities.

We love our families. We work hard. We basically want to be left

alone to thrive and prosper in our own way. To paraphrase the

prophet Jeremiah, we want to contribute in positive ways to

where we’re planted. That’s always a good thing. And that’s who

we are as Americans. Our dream is to make every age a Golden

Age.

At the risk of sounding shockingly controversial, politicians aren’t always honest. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes by mistake, but no politician is 100% honest 100% of the time. The Biblical truth is, in that regard, they are not different from us. They are like us. They are us. Regardless, we’ll keep doing our best to partner with God to make our families, church, and communities the best they can be.

I have to go back to January 15, 2025, to revisit my most brilliant insight:

As a nation, our four year constitutional crisis is coming to an end.

As President Biden leaves office, I trust we’ll all join together in

praying for our country and the world…

I was en fuego.

As the Babylon Bee so aptly quipped, “Biden Family Worried They May Be Running Out Of Time To Exploit Joe.” I think that also goes for his party apparatus as well as their willing accomplices in the mainstream media. {P.S., the last time I trusted the news was when they were with Huey Lewis.} I love what Luke 13:31-32 says:

At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, “Get

away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.” And he said to

them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and

perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my

course.’”

When Jesus calls Herod a fox, he is making a political statement. He not only disapproves of what Herod is doing, he’s also saying that Herod is deceptive and wily. That’s the way of the world.

So many people were complicit in covering up Biden’s incompetence. One former aide claims, “Staff felt justified doing ‘undemocratic things’ to stop ‘existential threat’ Donald Trump.” They were more than happy to say that the emperor had lovely new clothes, when in fact he was mentally naked. And now, across the board, they are more than willing to turn a profit covering what went wrong. Who better to cover the cover-up than its

lackies? Such hubris.

But here’s the thing. As I’ve already affirmed, we’ll survive. While we are in the world, we are not of the world. We do everything we can to make our little corner of God’s world a place of joy and peace and kindness. I see that in the lives and faith of the people of Covenant Church!

My final and best thought is from Alistair Begg:

“There was only one King who would finally be absolutely perfect,

of whom the Father says, ‘In him I am well pleased.’”

And to that, we can all say, “Amen.”

               With Much Love and Affection,

                                  Richard
