Leadership Notes
Years ago, Olivia Newton-John sang, “Let’s get physical.” I think the point was to cash in on the aerobics craze.
The theme song for today’s LN is, “Let’s get political.” Followed by a helpful heaping of spiritual and Biblical. Let’s do this…
I’m proposing a new social awareness movement:
MAKE AMERICA HINGED AGAIN!
Regardless of how you voted last week, or even if you didn’t vote at all, it should be clear to any reasonable, rational person that some folks have become unhinged over the results. People have lost their minds. To quote Stanley from The Office, “Son, have you lost your mind? ‘Cause I’ll help you find it!”
MAKE AMERICA HINGED AGAIN!
As we shared in worship on Sunday, “My Commitment…I will not gloat. I will be gracious. I ask, however, that our country’s new governance reflect the glory of our past.” I first saw that before November 5. It spoke to where we want to be, regardless of what we woke up to on November 6. It seems to be a reasonable, rational response whatever the result.
After the results of the 2016 Presidential election, some on the left declared election result fraud, descended on Washington, D.C., and lost their minds in various and sundry ways.
After the results of the 2020 Presidential election, some on the right declared election result fraud, descended on Washington, D.C., and lost their minds in various and sundry ways.
After the results of the 2024 Presidential election, we pray for a more reasonable, rational response. Life goes on. The world will not be coming to an end. And even if it does, that means Jesus has returned and we’ll be fine! But it won’t come to an end because of who won an election. The most important election for us is that God chose to save us from before the foundation of the world. That’s the election of utmost importance.
It’s sad to read about and read comments from those who have become unhinged. I love what one woman wrote:
“Good morning to everybody except the misanthropes telling you to cut ties with your family if they vote differently than you do.”
- Joanne Mason
KEEP THANKSGIVING HINGED!
I would only cut ties with someone who says that “Die Hard” isn’t a Christmas movie. Are you with me on that?
We know that no matter what we experience or go through in life, all is well, because Jesus Christ is Lord, reigning in heaven, seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. Nothing can change that. We are held together by the sovereign will of God. Because of that affirmation, all our hinges are securely fastened.
KEEP AMERICA HINGED!
And now, your Moment of Spurgeon:
“God’s people are always happy when they are grateful. We
should be ten times more full of bliss if we were proportionately
more full of thankfulness.”
Always Hinged and of Good Cheer,
Richard
