Early, Short, and Mostly Sweet

October 3, 2023

Leadership Notes

This is the week for the big guy to be short. Winded, that is. Seeing that our Office Manager leaves for a well-deserved vacation tomorrow, today’s missive needed to be early, short, and mostly sweet.

As the Parkers head north for the week, I can’t help but think about how joyous it is to live in Michigan. These past several weeks, even with a short heat spell thrown in for variety, have been an absolute delight, weather-wise. As my lovely wife and I were spending a few hours Sunday afternoon doing phase two of fall clean-up, we couldn’t help but think about all the Psalms proclaiming God’s glory in creation. God is good all the time…perhaps even to the point of showing favoritism toward Michigan?!

Two quick points to follow-up last week’s Leadership Notes. While it defies explanation, it seems that Mark Twain and Aleksander Solzhenitsyn read, postmortem, last week’s musings, and then managed to reflect on them whilst living. I’m not joking, folks. Somehow, they did it:

> Mark Twain: “Patriotism is supporting your country all of the time and

your government when it deserves it.”

> Aleksander Solzhenitsyn: “It is not a United Nations Organization but

a United Governments Organization where all governments stand

equal; those which are freely elected, those imposed forcibly, and

those which have seized power with weapons.”

As always, worshiping with the Body of Christ here at Covenant Church is an absolute delight. How happy are those who worship the Lord. You are a beautiful community of faith. Every Saturday night, as I drift off to sleep, I thank God for the people He has called to give Him all the glory and honor and praise. I thank Him for the privilege of leading His church in worship. What a beautiful place to be.

And now, your Moment of Spurgeon:

“We know that this very body, though it moulders into dust, shall

live again; these weeping eyes shall have all tears wiped from

them; these hands which grasp to-day the sword of a conflict

shall wave the palm branch of triumph.”

With Much Love and Affection,

Richard
